About

Hi! I am Sigrid, the webmistress of memoirista.com.

My particular memoir began at the end, the end of a long effort to achieve a goal. The elements of the memoir are shaped by that goal. As the Scarecrow sings in the Wizard of Oz, “If I only had a brain,” and as the Wizard answers by giving him a degree, the goal and the dream was a Ph.D. from an Ivy League University. The effortful part — well, it’s an effort for anybody — comes in because I landed in the ER one early evening, with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and extensive other injuries everywhere except my arms and one foot.

I have found many resources for writers on the web; it’s heartening that there are so many. Still, there’s very little that is specific to the writing, and especially the marketing of memoir. Some say that it should be treated as novel-writing; others, that a non-fiction proposal is the jumping-off place.

Hence this page, to focus on memoir and the issues that come up in writing and marketing memoir. I am not selling workshops, or books. This is a dynamic website that has as much to do with reader contributions as it does with my blog entries. Some of you know a great deal more than I do; some know a lot less. I am mostly a webmistress and a writer, with one memoir under construction.
